Demonstrations and Seminars

The SSA can provide demonstrations and seminars on European Martial Arts and the protagonists throughout history. Below are some examples of previous events.

A a weekend at the Royal Pavilion including fencing with an historical story. The two days covered Highland Broadsword, Rapier, Rapier and Dagger, Small Sword and finally a recreation of a duel of the regency period. This was a very rare, and possibly unique presentation of fencing in the priceless Music room of the Prince Regent. As all our work is unchoreographed, we were examined closely by the Curator of the Royal Pavion who verified we had mastery of our weapons and were respectful of all aspects of health and safety in a public environment. They were delighted with our presentation and felt it was money very well spent!

National Army Museum Demo

The National Army Museum put on a one-off weekend of Civil War full of demonstrations, called “Roundheads and Cavaliers: Soldiers, smoke and swords of the English Civil War”. The SSA contribution was to provide "fencing masters" for a demonstration of Civilian dueling and battlefield swordplay during the Civil War.

SRS CHANGE OF NAME

The Sussex Rapier School has been practicing many sword forms for a number years now and it has been decided by the Instructors to rename the School The Sussex Sword Academy to reflect more clearly what the SRS has become. Due to the fact that the SRS is well know in the European Martial Arts community we will introduce this change over time until we feel the new name has become well and truly established.
