ANDREW FEEST, pictured here at Groombridge House, is not only one of our Founder Members and a qualified BFHS instructor, but also a talented craftsman. He has an honours degree in Theatre Design and worked for fifteen years as a theatre designer and property maker based in London. This included working as the costume, props and set designer for the Medieval Players. This talent has found a fresh outlet in the Sussex Rapier School, and he has produced a series of leather and costume pieces which includes sword hangers, scabbards, doublets, gauntlets and cuir bolli gorgets, some of which (as in the example here) have been hand-tooled to resemble their historical counterparts. The Wallace Collection in London and the Stibbert Museum in Florence includes some wonderful examples of just this type of leatherworking on Renaissance parade armour pieces.
