The Sussex Sword Academy have set up their own grading system. These grades are acheived through, attendance, dedication to our art and your contribution to the Academy.
Membership Books are issued by the Academy to keep a record of you attendance and grades, and as proof of your achievments, your passport to the Academy if you will.
The first few levels are based on the amount of formal classes you attend. We have found this to be the most accurate reflection of the cadidates development as a fencer. For example if you attend twice a week for a year you will achieve your gradings alot quicker than attending occasionally over five years. Also, one to one tuition, attending National and International events and workshops hosted by Instructors we recognise will be added to your book.
These gradings are based on each weapon form, and can be achieved simultaneously or alternately one weapon at a time.
Our primary starting weapons are:
Highland Broadsword and Highland Broadsword and dirk
Rapier and Rapier and Dagger
